Shining Path high command taken down in Peru

High command of terrorist group Shining Path was taken down thanks to a joint operation by the National Police and Armed Forces after an armed conflict in the population center Virgen Ccasa–Llochegua, located in Huanta, Ayacucho region.

The terrorist, known as Comrade Abel or Alejandro, and self-named “General Commander of the People’s Revolutionary Army,” was commanding 16 individuals when intercepted by the Special Intelligence Operation by the Police and Armed Forces.

The said operation, named Tornado 2016, recovered a Galil rifle that had been stolen from an Army soldier in a previous terrorist ambush, where 13 soldiers and two civilians died. 

The joint venture combined efforts of Dircote, Cioec, Frente Policial Vraem and CE Vraem.

The Ministry informed the case remains under investigation.
