Peru's manufacturing sector expanded 1.6% last October, driven by the good performance of primary (+2.4%) and non-primary (+1.4%) manufacturing industries, Production Minister Pedro Olaechea informed on Tuesday.

This figure denotes recovery, following three consecutive months of negative results.

"The manufacturing GDP expanded once again, thanks to the acceleration of its two main subsectors [primary and non-primary], which led to bolstering production in the tenth month of the year and accumulating a 1% growth between January and October," he expressed.

According to Olaechea, primary subsector's growth was mainly explained by higher production of precious and ferrous metals (+12.9), as well as of refined copper and meat products (+5.3%).

On the other hand, he explained the positive result of non-primary subsector responds to the good performance of industries related to the manufacturing of metallic structures (+9.2%), as well as the production of cement, lime, and plaster (+8.7%).

It must be noted the slight construction sector recovery also contributed to said expansion.
