Peru's manufacturing sector experienced a 2% rise last June, Production Minister Pedro Olaechea affirmed.
Growth was mainly underpinned by greater performance of the primary industry, given the increased anchovy catches for indirect human consumption.
"The industry shows positive numbers again, due to the increase in Peruvian anchovy catches destined for the production of fishmeal (85%) […]," Olaechea stressed.
During such period, refined oil production expanded 20.6%, whereas non-primary manufacturing fell 3.2% due to lower yields of consumer and intermediate goods.
Projection
Minister Olaechea expects the manufacturing industry to grow above 1% by end-2017, thus reversing a three-year downturn.
The recovery of the construction and private investment sectors could contribute to boosting the projected increase for the industry.
