Peru's industry sector will speed up its recovery and expand 3.7% this year, Production Minister Lieneke Schol projected.
Said growth will be mainly driven by good performance of
primary (5.4%) and
non-primary (3.2%) subsectors.
"Industrial
fishing and primary
metals will be the main activities that will boost primary
manufacturing's growth," the minister expressed.
"Meanwhile, consumer and intermediate goods production will contribute to non-primary subsector's expansion," she added.
Although the
manufacturing industry saw a slight 0.2% decline in 2017, such result shows recovery signs compared to the decrease registered in the past three years.
The official noted that specific measures to overcome restrictions are being assessed along with the Economy and Finance Ministry.
Said restrictions undermine competitiveness in sectors that contribute to manufacturing GDP, such as
textile and forestry, she concluded.
