Preliminary figures for June 2017 signal a rebound in Peru's productive sectors like construction, manufacturing and hydrocarbons, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) said Friday.

INEI head Anibal Sanchez indicated the hydrocarbons sector bounced back in the sixth month of the year, growing 2.52%.

Said result was mainly driven by crude oil production, as the North Peruvian oil pipeline resumed activities following its rupture and subsequent repair.

Early figures for June "also point to a 3.55% rise in electric energy production."

Likewise, INEI data revealed close to 650,000 tons of Peruvian anchovy catches in June, which will help maintain the fishing sector's positive performance, as well as its indirect boost to manufacturing.

"May also saw a rebound in commodity and intermediate product imports that go directly to the industry […] and that would imply the reactivation of manufacturing from now onwards," he anticipated.

In addition, the INEI head said preliminary figures record a 2% increase in national, regional and local government's public work execution in June.

This, added to the 24.7% (May) rise in imports of capital goods for construction, favor not only this sector but also manufacturing and mining, he concluded.
