The 40th edition of Dakar might generate more than US$400 million in benefits for Peru, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Eduardo Ferreyros projected.
Thus, said rally constitutes a great opportunity for the Inca country to be
in the spotlight.
In this sense, the minister highlighted the race will be watched by some 190 million people worldwide.
He added 74 television channels —in 190 countries— will broadcast the event for more than 1,200 hours, thus showing images of Peru.
"It's important that the world gets to know more about our country," he expressed.
Besides, he noted there is an interesting economic performance in Peru related to the consumption of food, transportation, and fuel, as well as to visits made by Peruvian and
foreign tourists.
Thus, the whole benefit to the Inca country might surpass US$400 million.
Finally, Ferreyros noted all the necessary measures have been implemented in order to preserve the country's
protected natural areas.
This year's route
includes cities: Lima, Pisco, San Juan de Marcona, Arequipa, and Puno. Afterwards, the competition will continue its journey through Bolivia and Argentina.
