A group of renowned international chefs agreed that Peruvian gastronomy is "fantastic" and one of the most popular around the globe.

According to French chef Jacques Decrock, Peruvian cuisine is fantastic and worldwide known for the impressive quality and variety of its products and for the several styles and techniques of preparation.

Decrock also mentioned Peruvian food can be found in several cities around the world such as Paris, London and Dubai.

On his part, Argentinean cook Fernando Umar asserted Peruvian gastronomy is "at its peak."

He believes the Andean country has made an aggressive investment in culture and the country brand itself through its cuisine.

"Gastronomy has boosted Peruvian economy. Nowadays, tourism is enhanced by the country's culinary scene. Travelers come to taste and enjoy this new gastronomy," he highlighted.

Likewise, Umar said the fusion cuisine trend gives Peru the opportunity to showcase its products while using techniques from other countries.

On the other hand, Brazilian chef Arethusa Anffe pointed out that ceviche —Peru's flagship dish— is acclaimed in her country.

"Peruvian gastronomy stands out globally and it has a great potential to keep growing," she added.

Remarks were made within the framework of the 6th International Tourism and Gastronomy Congress "Una Fusion Hecha Pasion" (A Fusion Turned into Passion).

Organized by Juan Mejia Baca Gastronomy School, the event featured chefs from 5 different nations.

The meeting takes place in Peru's northern Lambayeque region and will run thru October 13th.
