Peruvian Soccer Federation (FPF) President Edwin Oviedo confirmed top striker Paolo Guerrero will resume Flamengo FC's training sessions on March 20.

According to Oviedo, such date has been also confirmed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

"We asked FIFA when Guerrero would be allowed to return [to Flamengo's training sessions], and they responded on March 20, next week," he expressed.

On the other hand, the FPF President said he expects the 33-year-old athlete manages to strike more goals than former national team player Teofilo Cubillas, who scored 5 goals at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.

"Let's hope Guerrero scores more goals than Cubillas back in 1970. That’s what all Peruvians want, even Teofilo himself," Oviedo noted.

"We always want our compatriots to become successful and score goals so that our whole country rejoices," he concluded.

It must be noted Paolo Guerrero will resume his soccer career on May 4, once the sixth-month suspension —imposed on the player by FIFA— is lifted.

FIFA suspension

As is known, Guerrero was suspended by FIFA for one year after analyzing the adverse analytical result of the anti-doping test conducted on him following a Qualifiers match against Argentina in 2017.

Later, the governing body reduced such suspension to six months —a decision which might allow the athlete to play the 2018 World Cup.

The Predator has been training in Argentina to be in good shape for soccer's most important event taking place this year in Russia.
