Australia has confirmed its willingness to sign a Free Trade Agreement with Peru during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Da Nang City.

"I hope we will conclude the Australia-Peru Free Trade Agreement at APEC. This will create opportunities for Australian exporters and send a strong message to the world that Australia supports free trade," Australian Trade Minister Steven Ciobo said Wednesday in a statement.

On Monday, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski —who is attending the Summit— claimed the deal has been discussed and negotiated in recent months and is ready to be signed

Peru has completed 21 free trade agreements with China, the United States, Japan, and the European Union.

In 2016, trade exchange between the two countries increased 57%, although it still represents less than 0.5% of Peruvian shipments.
