Government talks with teachers on strike are slowly bearing fruit and students will be back in the classroom shortly, Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski assured on Monday.
While addressing the said strike, ongoing for about two months, the Head of State welcomed the population's support to the government's bid to
provide quality education.
As is known, strikers recently
declined to sign an agreement with Peru's Education Ministry, as they refused to go through a performance assessment process.
In this respect, the statesman underlined
quality education is a "passport to prosperity" the country cannot go without.
"We have a great deal to do. I am glad to see that the bulk of Peru's public opinion supports quality education, the passport to prosperity without which we will not move forward […]," Mr. Kuczynski pointed out.
The top official went on to highlight teachers' considerable
pay raise, recently announced by the government in compliance with a previous pledge.
"It is not about politics, but rather education and prosperity for children who are to grow to become Peruvian citizens in the future. We must be optimistic," he added.
