Currently in Davos, Economy and Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne today began his participation at the 2017 World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting, which convenes the world’s foremost business, political and other leaders every year.

The government official stressed the Forum’s favorable environment for emerging economies like Peru to attract investments.

In this sense, he highlighted the country’s macroeconomic strengths and the economic reforms being implemented by the current administration, which make Peru a highly attractive investment destination.

“This is a great opportunity for the country to close investment deals, given the many parties interested in Peru,” he affirmed.

In this sense, the economist assured the sentiment towards the Inca nation is quite positive.

“Many investors are running away from other emerging markets to channel their investment into countries like ours. A major investment bank [Goldman Sachs] said Peru was among its recommended picks,” he underlined.

Similarly, he noted the People’s Bank of China is also seeking to invest in emerging countries, including Peru.

Minister Thorne will have an active participation in WEF 2017’s various dialogue panels and debates. Today, he will be among the panelists at the sessions on mining and metallic sector outlooks and situation, retirement and pension systems, as well as local financial markets.

On Thursday 19, he will join two key events: a debate on “Structural Reforms for Inclusive Sustainable Growth,” moderated by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.

Likewise, he will attend the discussion on the global situation, featuring the 2016 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences winners Oliver Hart and Bengt Holmström.
