Camana beaches in southern Arequipa region were locals' favorites to welcome 2017, since close to 70,000 locals arrived in the area to receive the new year, while enjoying the sun, sand and sea.

"Over the last few years, said beaches have become a favorite spot to welcome the new year and spend the Summer," Camana province Mayor Jamil Vazquez said.

Thus, authorities have geared up properly to provide safe quality services.

Summer vacationers flocked to Las Cuevas, Cerrillos, La Punta, La Miel and El Chorro beaches, and some even set up their tents to receive 2017 camping.

To guarantee security, arrangements were made with National Police officers to oversee Camana beaches, as well as the area's entertainment establishments.

Lifeguards have also been supervising the area since last week.

With such surging demand, transport tickets soared by over 100%; coach tickets, which are normally S/15 (about US$4.46), rose to S/30 (about US$8.9). Minivan tickets ranged from S/40 (about US$11.9) to S/50 (about US$14.9).

Camana beaches are located three hours from Arequipa city. The area features not only beautiful beaches, but also hotels and restaurants for holiday-makers.
