Wearing an Inca-styled costume, renowned Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez shone last Saturday while performing British song "Rule Britannia" at the closing of UK's BBC Proms 2016: The World's Greatest Classical Music Festival.

"It was a pleasure to dress as the first Inca [Manco Capac]," Florez told RPP radio and TV station.

In such exclusive interview, the tenor stated his typical costume emerged from an idea by a London reporter.

"I spoke with Miguel Molinari [Peruvian Symphony Orchestra Director] about my Inca outfit. I liked the idea and wanted to show something from Peru, something different [...]," the 43-year-old recalled.

Thanks to arrangements made by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), Florez's outfit was designed by Edilberto Merida Pilares.

It must be noted Rule Britannia is traditionally performed at BBC's Last Night of the Proms, whose guest soloists should be dressed up.

"It [the costume] has drawn the attention from everyone," he added.

The move was praised by the BBC.
