Peru: Congress elects Chairwoman

Peruvian lawmakers elected Luz Salgado Rubianes as the new Congress Chairwoman for the 2016-2017 period.

The Fuerza Popular candidate will preside over the Legislative Power.

Rosa Bartra (Fuerza Popular) will hold Chairmanships, along with Richard Acuña (Alianza Para el Progreso) and Elias Rodriguez (APRA).

Led by Kenji Fujimori, the election ceremony took place at Congress headquarters on Tuesday morning.

Fuerza Popular, which has Parliament majority (73 out of 130), is the party founded by former presidential runner Keiko Fujimori.


The members, in charge of legislation, monitoring and national representation for the 2016-2021 term, were sworn in and took office last Friday.

Lawmakers were elected by popular vote during the general election held on April 10th.
