The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro confirmed on Wednesday, during the 46th Regular Session of the OAS General Assembly, that Peru will host the 8th Summit of the Americas in 2018.

Almagro said the General Secretariat is working on the agenda for such conclave and that Peruvian authorities will be informed as soon as possible; moreover, he pledged to provide them support and advice.

The 46th Regular Session of the General Assembly is down to its final day, and on Wednesday morning addressed the organization of the Summit, whose seventh edition took place in Panama April 10-11, 2015.

Drawing world attention

Over the last years Peru has been the host of important world range events, which have allowed it to strengthen its increasingly relevant position in the global stage.

The South American nation hosted the Third Summit of South American-Arab Countries in October, 2012; the Seventh World Economic Forum on Latin America in April, 2013; the UN Climate Change Conference (COP20) in December, 2014; and the Annual Meeting of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund in October, 2015.

In November 2016, Peru will gather 21 Pacific Rim member economies during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
