15:15 | Cerro de Pasco (Pasco region), May. 16.
Pasco region's cities and towns commemorate Cruz de Mayo (May Cross) festivity every May by hosting a series of liturgical and entertaining activities.
"For Christians, the Cross represents Jesus Christ's life [...]. This passion means spiritual resignation for devotees," Pasco's Yanacancha district parish priest Marlon Rivera highlighted.
Such cultural manifestation has turned into a whole Andean tradition.
At the event, colorful dances such as Chonguinada cerreña, negreria, huaylarsh, among others are brought on stage and draw attention from tourists.
"A large variety of typical dishes are offered to visitors, while dancers perform to the rhythm of music played by the best bands and orchestras [...]," Pasco Provincial Mayor Rudy Callupe stressed.
"We hope this festivity will be recognized as a National Cultural Heritage," he added.
Day by day, performers take the streets to dance to the beat of traditional music and thus spread their culture.
The festivity ends when attendees are delivered trucays (large breads) and decorated fruits.
