Hass avocado exports could exceed 165,000 metric tons by the end of 2015, which would turn Peru into the world’s second largest exporter, the head of Peruvian Hass Avocado Producers’ Association (ProHass) James Bosworth affirmed.

Export experience

"Peru relies on a 15-year exporting experience, and it has become the world’s second largest exporter thanks to efforts undertaken by agro-exporting enterprises […],” Bosworth told Andina news agency.

In 2014, Hass avocado exports were aimed at European markets (accounted for 56% of the total), followed by the U.S. (40%) and other nations (4%).

These types of fruits were also dispatched to the Netherlands, Spain, France, England, Germany, Belgium, United States, Canada, Chile and Colombia.

World Congress

In this framework, he indicated that the 15-year-old “exporting route” was the reason why Lima will become the venue for the 8th World Avocado Congress.
