Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magali Silva, said her portfolio’s goal is to continue fuelling the growth of the meetings tourism sector in the region and host 100 international events in 2016.

“We want to place Peru as a remarkable destination to host international events. To that end, we promote awareness of our destinations as a new alternative with value-adding advantages in the market,” she said during the Seventh edition of Fiexpo Latin America 2015, held in Lima.

After taking part in a ceremonial ribbon cutting, accompanied by Fiexpo 2015 directors Arnaldo Nardone and Sergio Baritussio, as well as Mexico, Paraguay and Uruguay tourism authorities, Silva visited stands of different exhibitors, led by Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and India.

The list of candidates willing to organize events in our country is planned with a lot of professionalism, because the purpose is to look for successful applications and turn Peru into the most attractive venue for international meetings.

“We work as a team by combining efforts with the public and public sector in order to make important achievements, as it is observed in the country’s four-place improvement in the 2014 ICCA ranking,” she added.

“We have participated in the 10th Edition of the World Economic Forum on Latin America held in Mexico, where the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index 2015 was released. We can say with satisfaction that Peru has risen 15 places. Now we are in the 58th position.

She said the growth was mainly driven by the improvement in infrastructure, demand and tourism development services for meetings, congresses and events.
