More than 800,000 tourists will travel within the country during the long weekend of Labor Day 2015, injecting US$78 million into the national economy, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) Magali Silva reported.

Out of the total, about 99% are locals and the rest are foreigners.

This will lead to a 6% growth in domestic tourism on the sidelines of the third long weekend of the year, according to Mincetur projections based on figures provided by air and ground transportation companies and public, private institutions related to the sector.

This growth resulted from Promperu’s campaigns run through advertising platform ¿Y tu que planes?, a domestic tourism promotion initiative seeking to nurture a true travel culture among Peruvians by promoting tourist sites located throughout the country. This will generate an economic impact arising from the consumption of tourism services.

The most popular destinations will be cities near Lima such as Ica, Paracas, Lunahuana, Cañete, Chincha, La Merced, San Ramon, Huancayo, Santa Rosa de Quives and Canta, where 98% of tourists will get by car.

The businesses that will benefit the most are those offering accommodation, cultural and entertainment services.
