Around 40 U.S. journalists will write about the cultural wealth and legacy and the great biodiversity Peru has to offer, informed Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister, Magali Silva.

The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) came to Peru, in order to carry out the society's convention, an event that took place from 27 February to 3 March.

"We are enthusiastic about showing the features of our country, such as the natural and man-made wonders, the rainforest, colonial cities, Incan treasures, the powerful Amazon, an exquisite gastronomy and our dynamic capital: Lima," she pointed out.

Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu were the main destinations visited by the association's members. Puno and Tambopata Amazonian forest were suggested for optional trips.

While in Lima, the group enjoyed the wide variety offer in gastronomy, tours around the historic centre and main districts.

As well, they paid a visit to Larco Museum, where they learned about 3,000 years of Peru’s pre-Columbian History.

Travelers were fascinated by the encounter of cultures and traditions in Cusco, where they walked down the city’s Main Square, Coricancha and San Blas.

They were also surprised by the textiles produced by residents of the Misminay community.

After making a tour to meet the circular ruins of Moray, they subsequently started their excursion to the Sacred Valley.

The Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu did not only impress the members of SATW due to its architecture, but also because it is a natural wonder.

According to Jose Koechlin, CEO of hotel corporation Inkaterra, there has never been such an important event to promote Peru in the American market.

Therefore, the SATW convention sets a precedent for the promotion of this destination, he said.

In the next two years, their participants will write articles about this trip, which will be published on specialized media such as: "Travel+Leisure" and "Condé Nast" and several plaforms such as: Blogs, books and tourism guides.
