The Government of Peru has shown a firm, consistent and legitimate attitude when temporarily withdrawing its Ambassador from Santiago after Chile’s unsatisfactory response on the espionage case, said today former Foreign Minister Eduardo Ferrero.
"Peru required, accordingly, a satisfactory response from the Chilean government for the acts committed; since this has not occurred and claims were not satisfied, the government moved rightly and firmly to withdraw its Ambassador from Santiago," he emphasized.
"I welcome and agree with this consistent attitude of the Government and I hope it can be recognized by all Peruvians. It is a state issue facing a serious act contrary to the dignity of the country," he told Andina news agency.
Ferrero believes the measure is legitimate, given the fact that the first step taken by the government was to recall its Ambassador for consultations; it then awaited the reply, which turned out to be unsatisfactory taking into account what had occured.
The former chancellor said it is now time to await a further reply from Chilean authorities that elicits a positive reaction from the Peruvian side, as a result of a satisfactory response.
