This year Cajamarca’s Carnaval is expected to welcome more than 7,000 visitors from different regions across the country and abroad, who get together to enjoy this traditional Andean celebration.

According to the head of the Regional Chamber of Tourism (Caretur), Jose Zapana, the number of participants is due to increase by 50% this year, driven by a campaign launched to introduce this festival throughout the country.

Businessmen and tour operators have been undertaking a substantial work promoting the carnival in cities such as Trujillo and Lima in a bid to explore attractions the Cajamarca region has to offer.

“The objective is to work and fix previous years’ mistakes in coordination with the patronage and every organization in Cajamarca,” Zapana told Andina news agency.

Different institutions and regional chambers have conducted dissemination campaigns to show Cajamarca is a friendly and fun city.

He continued: “Most visitors come from northern Peru and Lima,” the capital city.

The organizing committee of this year’s event has convened meetings with local neighborhoods in order to provide an organized and safe experience.

It should be noted 10 new hotels have been built in the past few years, thus offering tourists several accommodation options.
