Peru’s President Ollanta Humala assured today “there is no place” for any acts against democracy in his government.
In this sense, he ruled out reports claiming the government may have been involved in an alleged “reglaje” (tracking) on politicians.
“The government I lead has always had the most absolute respect for democratic values and the liberties guaranteed in the [Peruvian] Constitution, because I believe in those and because I fought to recover them at critical times,” he reminded.
"Accusations claiming [the need] to restrict freedom of speech or conduct banned activities such as following up [political] opponents do not have a room in my government," he pointed out
In a news briefing from the Government Palace, accompanied by his entire Cabinet, the President affirmed to have urged corresponding authorities to open an investigation about the matter of the accusations.
The President has decided to "grant access" to authorities into the National Intelligence Directorate (DINI).
"We are the main interested people in resolving the complaint," he pointed out.
