Peruvian Finance Minister, Alonso Segura, held a meeting with the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Managing Director, Christine Lagarde, at the multilateral institution's headquarters in Washington D.C., United States.

The gathering, held Wednesday in the above-mentioned city, was strongly focused on assessing the preparations for the annual meeting of the Boards of Governors of the IMF and the World Bank (WB), which is due to take place in Peru’s capital Lima in October 2015.

“The construction work of the convention center, slated to be the venue of the Board of Governors’ annual meeting of the IMF and the WB next year, is advancing according to schedule,” the minister said Thursday.

The high-level Humala administration official continued, “Several activities will be carried out in the coming months within the framework of the preparations for this major meeting”.

Another relevant topic addressed at the Oct. 8 meeting, also attended by IMF Director for the Western Hemisphere Department Alejandro Werner, focused on the economic conditions prevailing globally and their impact on regional economies like Peru.

The IMF-WB annual meetings will be back in Latin America after a 48 year-absence, since the last time the annual Meetings were held in the region was in 1967 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Annual Meetings—which bring together ministers of finance and central bank governors from the institutions’ 188 member countries—provide a unique opportunity for a broad dialogue on issues of global economic importance.

They serve to discuss international economic and financial developments, the state of the global economy, and policies to reduce poverty and promote inclusive economic growth.

Likewise, the high-level gatherings are unique platforms to provide a forum for civil society, the private sector, academics and others to engage in discussions on economic issues.
