Peru’s export and tourism promotion board (Promperu) will attend the British Birdwatching Fair - Birdfair 2014 which will be held from August 15 to 17 in Rutland city, United Kingdom, it was reported on Saturday.

According to Promperú representatives, Peru's participation in this international tourism event is aimed at promoting the country as an ideal destination for avid birders as well as travelers who are interested in seeing the wildlife in the Andean nation.

"Peru is one of the countries with the greatest variety of birds species. It offers attractive bird observation routes to bird watchers, wildlife enthusiasts and photographers, thus becoming an increasingly recognized tourist destination,", PromPeru's General Secretariat said

Promperu’s official Mirna Ipanaqué Fiestas will be heading to Rutland city to carry out tourism promotion activities during the four-day event.

Peru has the third-highest concentration of bird species in the world, with 1,816 species, 120 of which are endemic. Its varied geography and topography, and its wildernesses of so many different life zones, have endowed Peru with the greatest biodiversity and density of birds on earth.

Some of Peru's breathtaking birding sites include Manu, Tambopata & Madre de Dios, Abra Malaga, Iquitos & the Ballestas Islands.

In 2012, Peru’s Ministry of Tourism (Mincetur) launched the Birding Rally Challenge, a team competition in which birders trek across Peru for about a week in order to see as many birds as they can.

The event's goal is to promote nature and bird watching tourism, thus attracting thousands of birdwatchers from around the world.
