Peru’s President Ollanta Humala will be awarded the Statesman of the Year for 2013 by the Canadian Council of the Americas (CCA) due to his vision for the country's future, leadership and outstanding management skill.
The award-winning ceremony is set to be held at the Ritz-Carlton in Toronto, Canada on April 10, 2014.
The head of the Andean nation’s administration is set to address the CCA's dinner where his skills conducting affairs of state and his management to place Peru as a stand-out developed economy performer will be highlighted.
Accompanying the Peruvian leader to accept the accolade will be his wife, the First Lady Nadine Heredia, and members of the country’s Ministerial Cabinet.
The CCA is Canada’s premier forum for discussion of the political and economic issues in the hemisphere that are critical to the North American nation, and particularly its trade and investment.
Previous recipients of the award include the current head of the Colombian State, Juan Manuel Santos and former President of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernandez.
In 2009, the Peru-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and parallel agreements on labor cooperation and the environment entered into force, enhancing a trade relationship that has grown substantially over the last years.
