Zero tolerance to interferences in Peru's Judiciary, says Chairman

14:47 | Lima, Nov. 22.

Judicial Branch Head Victor Prado on Thursday affirmed he would never tolerate any interference in the Judiciary.

"I insist (…) the Judiciary is an autonomous constitutional entity composed of professional judges," Prado said.

According to him, the Judicial Power complies with the mission given by the Constitution and Nation, which is to do justice by applying the law within the current legal system.

"In Peru, the Judicial Branch does not play politics or politicize cases. It simply abides by its role as the justice administrator institution," he added.

When asked about ex-President Alan Garcia's asylum request to the Uruguayan Government, the Judiciary head declined to comment on the matter.

Prado recalled asylum requests have a long historical tradition in Latin America and Europe.
