The third and last batch of Machu Picchu artifacts, which had been housed at Yale University in the United States, will return to Peru next December, announced the head of repatriations at Peru’s Ministry of Culture Blanca Alva Guerrero
"The latest installment will arrive in December this year. It will be delivered directly to Cusco because it is pottery fragments“, noted Blanca Alva in statements to Andina News Agency.
Ms Alba explained that it is a batch of ceramic very fragile and delicate; this is why they come to the airport Jorge Chavez to immediately make the change at the flight going to Cusco.
Also, she highlighted the fact the transport of the last batch of Machu Picchu relics not generates spending for the Peruvian State, since it will be Yale University which covering the costs of such management. Ms Alba believes repatriating antiquities is, in the long term, a price worth paying, but she would prefer it if more was done to fight looting.
She added the Casa Concha Museum is being conditioned and heated to house the Machu Picchu artifacts in order to display, conserve and study the archaeological collection. The artifacts will be accessible to scholars and a worldwide public.
The first batch which included ceramics and metal pieces arrived in Peru in March 2011, while the second batch arrived in December of that year.
