Workers' Day: Peru PCM hails role of workers in COVID-19 battle

The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) on Friday noted that the country is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic with strength thanks to the efforts of thousands of Peruvian workers.

"Today, the International Workers' Day, we pay tribute to men and women on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19," PCM posted on Twitter.

This Workers' Day, the country is facing a fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The International Workers' Day celebration commemorates the fight of Chicago (U.S.) workers who, on May 1, 1886, went on strike demanding an eight-hour workday.

COVID-19 figures

As is known, the number of citizens infected with coronavirus (COVID-19) rose to 36,976 in Peru and the death toll reached 1,051 as at Thursday at 00:00 (local time). 

Moreover, 10,405 people have been discharged and declared healthy. Other 4,978 are hospitalized.
