United States and Peru highlight results of bilateral cooperation achieved in 2025

Annual Review highlights joint achievements in Security, Trade, Defense, and Education

The Embassy of the United States of America in Peru presented a review of the main advances achieved in 2025 as a result of the strong bilateral friendship between the two countries.

In this regard, they highlighted that cooperation has led to joint achievements in security, the fight against drug trafficking, trade, defense, education, and social development.

In the area of security, 30 terrorists were captured, including members of the Tren de Aragua gang, in operations carried out by the Peruvian National Police (PNP) with support from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI Lima).

Additionally, more than $24 million in counterfeit currency was seized in coordination with the United States Secret Service.

As part of the fight against human trafficking, 126 victims of child exploitation were rescued thanks to the joint work of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Lima.

Also noteworthy is the historic seizure of four tons of mercury destined for illegal mining, carried out by the National Superintendency of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) with support from U.S. agencies.

In the area of counternarcotics, cooperation between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Section (INL), the PNP, and SUNAT led to the seizure of 29.7 tons of cocaine, the destruction of 1,124 drug labs, and the eradication of 36,456 hectares of illicit coca crops.

In addition, six UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were delivered to strengthen the country's air capabilities.

In the commercial sector, exports from U.S. companies to Peru exceeded $9 billion, while agricultural exports reached $684 million, introducing new products to the Peruvian market.

More than 300 U.S. companies received specialized consulting to strengthen their operations in the country.

In the defense sector, both countries conducted 22 technical exchanges, five joint exercises, and 12 events under the State Partnership Program with the West Virginia National Guard.

Additionally, $6.9 million was allocated to infectious disease research through NAMRU SOUTH.

In education, more than 5,000 Peruvians chose to study in the United States, while 200 young people from 18 regions received scholarships from the U.S. government. The number of Peruvian undergraduate students in the United States grew by 3.8%.

In the area of prosperity, through the Peace Corps in Peru, 2,423 students received training in nutrition, social-emotional health, and reproductive health, in coordination with 690 health professionals and teachers.

Additionally, 343 water and sanitation providers received specialized training, strengthening the management of these services in the Lima region, Cajamarca, and La Libertad.

Furthermore, 5,911 students participated in 23 vocational fairs and 25 professional panels, organized by volunteers from the Youth Development program, with the aim of promoting career guidance and developing skills for the future.

The Embassy highlighted that these achievements reflect the shared commitment between both nations, which will celebrate 200 years of bilateral relations in 2026.
