United Kingdom reaffirms support for Peru to develop green finance

16:51 | London (UK), Jul. 2.

The United Kingdom wishes to continue collaborating with Peru in the development of green finance, British Ambassador to Lima Kate Harrisson affirmed on Tuesday.

In this sense, a Peruvian delegation participated in the launching ceremony of the Green Finance Strategy in London.

The Peruvian representatives were Deputy Micro- and Small-Sized Enterprises and Industry Minister Oscar Graham, Economy and Finance Ministry's Indebtedness and Public Treasury General Directorate Jorge Sui, Development Finance Corporation (Cofide) General Manager Alex Zimmermann, and Peruvian Trust Fund for National Parks and Protected Areas (Profonanpe) Executive-Director Anton Willems.

London City Minister John Glen presented the creation of the UK's First Green Finance Strategy to the international delegation.

This initiative will help boost sustainable investment, expecting that companies will inform how climate change affects their business.

Within the summit's framework, London City organized a round-table with delegations from Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Mexico.

The Latin American representatives had the opportunity to learn more about the new Green Finance Institute, as well as its priorities for the future. They also discussed the chances to collaborate even more with Latin America.

On the other hand, Ambassador Harrisson pointed out the UK has been at the forefront of the world's green finance for some time.

It should be noted the British Embassy financed —in 2018— the publication of the First Green Bonds guide for Peru, in collaboration with the Lima Stock Exchange (BVL).

The first green bond was included in the BVL, and Cofide issued a second bond in May this year.
