Unicef's Director and Senior Adviser on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, Nicholas Alipui, highlighted achievements and progress made by Peru’s Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion – Midis in three years of administration.

He also noted Midis’ bridge role to connect other sectors and government bodies with the aim of implementing different interventions and programmes aimed at the poorest communities in the country.

While meeting Midis’ head Paola Bustamante, Alipui highlighted the achievements made on early childhood, particularly on early childhood development, one of the five strategic axis of "Incluir para Crecer" (Include to Grow), as well as child nutrition, integral development of children and adolescents, economic inclusion and elderly protection.

He also underlined the life cycle approach of the National Strategy for Development and Social Inclusion “Incluir para Crecer”, which precisely guides all sectors and government bodies on this matter.

Alipui emphasized the co-management model applied by Midis in programmes such as Qali Warma, as it involves educational community (parents, teachers and school principals), civil society, as well as public and private sectors to ensure quality food service to children attending public schools across the country.

Finally, the Unicef representative highlighted the work carried out by Midis, in order to create the program "Incluir para Crecer."

The meeting was also attended by Susana Sottoli, Associate Director in the Programme Division at Unicef Headquarters in NY; and Paul Martin, representative of Unicef in Peru.
