Unbeaten Peru reach semis of U15 soccer tourney

Peru booked their place in the semifinals of the South American Under-15 Soccer Championship after beating Ecuador 2-0 on Friday.

The Peruvians made it three wins in a row as first-half goals from Luis Iberico and Jeremy Canelas saw off Ecuador at the IV Centenario stadium in Tarija, Bolivia.

Peru, coached by Juan Jose Ore, will now face Argentina on Sunday with the top spot in Group A up-for-grabs. Both teams are level on nine points, though Peru are ahead on goal difference.

Trailing Peru and Argentina are Paraguay with 4 points, Ecuador with 1 point and hosts Bolivia with no points.

In Group B, Colombia top the table with 6 points, followed by defending champions Brazil and Chile, both level on 4 points.

The winner of the 15-day tournament will qualify for the 2014 Youth Olympic Games to be held in Nanjing, China.
