The Extraordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) will take place on Thursday at Government Palace after President-elect Ollanta Humala’s swearing-in ceremony.
These leaders are already in Lima and will also attend Humala’s inauguration.
Argentina’s Cristina Fernandez, Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff, Chile’s Sebastian Piñera, Colombia’s Juan Manuel Santos, Ecuador’s Rafael Correa, Bolivia’s Evo Morales, Guatemala’s Alvaro Colom, Honduras’ Porfirio Lobo, Panama’s Ricardo Martinelli and the Prince of Asturias are among the attendees.
According to the official program, the meeting will be held at 16:00 hours at the Tupac Amaru Room in the Government Palace in Lima.
At that time, the Heads of State are to take the official photograph and then they will hear the corresponding welcome address of the new Peruvian president.
Then, all the members will approve the work agenda and Unasur’s Secretary General Maria Emma Mejia will present a report about the recent work.
As host of the event, President Humala will give an initial speech. Then, the meeting will continue with an open dialogue between the heads of state and government within the regional bloc who will also participate in Humala's taking office ceremony.
Only 10 out of 12 country members have confirmed their attendance as Venezuela and Guyana will not be able to attend the special summit.
The Secretary General of Unasur noted that the Lima Declaration will be signed during this summit.
The regional bloc is made up of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Surinam, Uruguay and Venezuela.
