Thirty two tourist attractions, including natural scenic spots, archaeological sites, churches and monuments, compete to become one of the eight wonders of Piura at a contest held by the Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism—Dircetur.
According to Directur’s head Ronald Savitzky Olaya, the jury of the competition reviewed the envelopes and files submitted by eight provincial municipalities, which met requirements set forth in the contest rules.
Each province may submit four (4) candidates. Aypate Archeological Complex, Frias Andean Plateau, Nuestra Señora del Pillar Main Church and San Pablo Lagoon (Pacaipampa) compete to represent Ayabaca and; Santa Ana Waterfall (San Miguel de El Faique), La Negra Lagoon, Los Peroles de Cascapampa (Sondorillo) and Los Peroles de Mishahuaca (Canchaque) compete to represent Huancabamba.
Seeking recognition for Morropon are Piedra del Toro Forest (Morropon), Cerro Verde Archaeological Complex (La Matanza), Piura La Vieja (La Matanza) and La Encantada Town. Paita’s candidates include Manuelita Saenz House, San Lucas de Colan Church, Foca Island and Colan Beach.
Piura Province will be represented by Algarrobo Rey (Tambogrande), Fortress-Temple of Narihuala, Kurt Beer Ecological Park and Simbila Town. Likewise, the candidates for Sechura include Virrila Estuary, San Martin de Tours Church, San Pedro de Vice Mangroves and the reserved area of Illescas.
El Angolo, Los Patos Lagoon, Poechos Dam and San Miguel de Tangarara Village compete to represent Sullana. Lastly, Talara’s candidates are Cabo Blanco, Lobitos, Los Organos and Punta Balcones beaches.
The official announcement of candidates will take place on 15th January, after which the promotion period will kick off and continue through March.
