A Peruvian delegation of cheese producers achieved a historic victory by taking three gold, two silver and one bronze medals at the international contest "ExpoQueijo 2021," held in Brazil, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri).

The event showcased the best cheese samples from Canada, the United States, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, and 16 states of the host country.

Agrarian Development and Irrigation Minister Victor Maita extended his congratulations to the representatives of the winning producers and reiterated the Government's commitment to family farming.

The Peruvian delegation triumphed in the mature cheese category (more than 60 days of maturation) with a type of Swiss cheese, with which La Libertad-based Asociacion de Productores Agropecuarios La Perla del Paraiso won the gold medal.

A similar situation occurred with the Paria Vache cheese type in the mature cheese category (more than 30 days of maturation), in which Lacteos Verano —a plant based in Lima— took gold.

The Misky Food plant located in Junin also secured gold in the young cheese category (less than 30 days of maturation).

According to Midagri, the different types of Peruvian cheese were registered in their corresponding categories, depending on the characteristics of the raw material, use of lactic ferments, percentage of moisture in the cheese, type of curd, type of cheese mass, among other things.

The Peruvian delegation was made up of samples from 12 cheese plants based in 8 regions across the country: Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Junin, La Libertad, Lima, Pasco, and Puno.

Held last weekend, the international contest included 41 categories and 800 samples of cheese in total.
