Southern Peru Copper Corporation plans to develop four mining projects worth a total of US$7.9 billion in the period comprised between 2018 and 2025.

These ventures are expected to boost the national economy.

According to Southern Peru Technical Services Manager Carlos Aranda, the projects are Tia Maria (Arequipa region), the Toquepala expansion (Tacna), Los Chancas (Apurimac), and Michiquillay (Cajamarca).

From the total, Toquepala expansion is the only one complete. Said project is expected to double the company's processing capacity from 60,000 to 120,000 tons of copper a day. Corresponding investment entailed US$1.2 billion.

Likewise, Aranda noted Tia Maria project has made the most progress. If granted the construction permit in 2018, it may be ready by the fourth quarter of 2020, with an investment of US$1.4 billion.

Los Chancas project also appears on the list. Its construction may be completed by 2022, relying on an investment worth US$2.8 billion.

In addition, there is recently-awarded Michiquillay project, which involves an investment of US$2.5 billion. Corresponding production will start in 2025. It currently awaits the contract signing with Peru's Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion) to launch its community relations plan.
