A picture of Peruvian weightlifter Hernan Viera displaying his great effort to lift weights at Rio 2016 Olympic Games was highlighted by one of US’s most influential newspapers, The New York Times.

Viera, who represented Peru at the ecumenical event in Men's +105 kg weightlifting category last Monday, was featured among The New York Times highlights.

The Tumbes-born athlete lifted a total of 351 kilograms. Such result allowed him to set a national record in his category, according to Peruvian Sports Institute's records.

The picture shows Viera exerting huge effort to lift the weights, the tattoo on his right arm standing out: "Kallpa," Quechua word meaning "strength" and "power."
