Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio presided over United Nations Security Council's high-level session earlier this week.

The meeting featured UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as well as member-countries' ministers and other high-ranking officials.

While in New York, Popolizio had a busy agenda at the UN headquarters.

Within this framework, the cabinet member joined high-level meetings, organized by the UN General Assembly and Security Council.

These gatherings served to address efforts undertaken with the purpose of consolidating peace in countries hit by conflict, as well as promote the sustainable peace approach included in the organization's agenda.

Previously, the Peruvian diplomat took part in the General Assembly's plenary session, in which he addressed the Inca country's stance on peacekeeping.

Popolizio also participated in an interactive dialogue on the comprehensive support promoted by the UN system in pursuit of achieving sustainable peace.

In his speech, he highlighted Peru's experience in terms of peacemaking and the fight against terrorism.

The cabinet member also stressed the need to strengthen multilateralism in order to face global challenges, such as climate change.

As is known, Peru has taken over the UN Security Council presidency for the month of April. It currently holds a non-permanent-member seat in the organization.

Lastly, Popolizio —along with other Security Council members— attended the exhibition Golden Kingdoms: Luxury and Legacy in the Ancient Americas, organized by New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, in partnership with Peru's Culture Ministry.
