PUCP named leading university in Peru by QS

Pontificia Universidad Catolica (PUCP) has been named the top university in Peru, according to the tenth edition of the annual list of Latin America's best higher education institutions crafted by QS Quacquarelli Symonds.

Within this framework, the 2021 QS World University Rankings: Latin America affirms that the Peruvian institution climbed two positions from 18 in 2020 to 16 on the latest edition.


For its part, the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile remains the region's leader, which retains the top spot for the fourth consecutive year.

The Top Ten contains institutions from five different nations, emphasizing the breadth of quality and intensity of competition within the regional higher education ecosystem.

According to the 2021 QS World University Rankings: Latin America, the Top Ten is comprised of three Brazilian institutions; two, each from: Mexico, Chile, and Colombia; in addition to Argentina's Universidad de Buenos Aires.

Thus, this upper echelon of the ranking remains highly stable. There is no new entrant into the latest Top Ten, and seven remain in the same position as last year.

The most noteworthy movement in this group is achieved by Universidad de Chile, which rises from 7th to 4th.

The 410 featured universities can be found in 20 Latin Americans locations. The most represented location is Brazil (94 ranked universities). It is followed by Mexico (66), Colombia (60), Argentina (42), Chile (40), and Peru (20).

Four universities in the region achieve perfect scores for QS's Academic Reputation metric, which accounts for the expert perspectives of over 100,000 academics across the world regarding research quality at the region's universities.
They are: the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil), Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico, and Universidad de Buenos Aires (Argentina).

The 2021 QS World University Rankings: Latin America contains 410 universities and is the most extensive independent comparison of the region's higher education system.
