PromPeru presents investment portfolio of tourism projects worth US$750 million

18:31 | Lima, Nov. 30.

An investment portfolio amounting to US$750 million —for the development of a series of tourism projects in a post-coronavirus environment— was presented by Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) to a group of tourism entrepreneurs.

"It is a diversified portfolio because the projects are not only for Lima but also for regions," said Walter Vizarreta, director of PromPeru's Business Investment Promotion Division, in his speech at the International Tourism Forum held by said promotion entity.

According to Vizarreta, 10 regions have presented tourism development projects to attract a greater number of visitors.

"These projects involve initiatives about thermalism, fairgrounds, a different access to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary, a potential cable car to Choquequirao, among others," he explained.

Vizarreta noted that the information was collected in record time. "We already have a network, which we are using to present all the potential and advantages, in addition to the projects we have," he underlined.

Better environment

He went on to say that Peru offers a great potential for different sectors, the most noteworthy being tourism.

"As a country, Peru offers a series of advantages and opportunities to attract new capital in the medium and long term," he commented.

In this sense, Vizarreta highlighted the country's economic performance in recent years, which allowed it to reduce poverty before the COVID-19 pandemic began.

"Its stability also translates to a fairly low country risk. This was reflected in the recent issuance of 100-year sovereign bonds in the international market," he added.
