marks a milestone for the country's economy on the world stage.
"It is a historical milestone. This important step reflects the political decision by President Dina Boluarte, who leads this process. The incorporation of our country into the international mechanism will allow Peru to enter the major leagues of economy and administrative governance," Otarola underlined on this occasion.
Moreover, during an interview with RFI-France 24, the Prime Minister indicated that this fact will allow the completion of a series of institutional reforms so as to provide (high) quality public services to citizens, as well as to relaunch Peru's position in its relationship with Europe and the rest of the world.
The
OECD is an international organization, among which are countries with the highest development levels worldwide. The body works with governments in the assessment, diagnosis, and formulation of recommendations, standards, as well as the exchange of good practices.
Meetings with senators
The delegation also spoke with high-ranking French authorities, who expressed their support for Peru's incorporation into the OECD —an international body whose objective is to promote policies that favor equality, opportunities, and well-being for populations.
Besides, they valued the progress made by Peru on democratic institutionality.
On this occasion,
Prime Minister Otarola and
Foreign Affairs Minister Gervasi met with French senators from various political groups, such as France-Andean Countries Group Chairwoman Maryse Carrère, Joël Bigot, Anne Chain-Larché, Olivier Cadic, Joëlle Garriaud- Maylam, Nadège Havet, and Michel Dagbert.
Additionally, they spoke with the deputies from the National Assembly's France-Peru Friendship Group (GAFP), such as its Chairman Rémy Rebeyrotte, Agnès Carel, Hadrien Ghomi, Yoann Gillet, and Stéphane Mazars.
The process of accession to the
OECD was declared of national interest by means of Supreme Decree No. 041-2023-PCM, which creates the permanent multisectoral commission in charge of monitoring actions to this effect. It is chaired by the Cabinet chief and also made up of the heads of Foreign Affairs and Economy-Finance.
