President of Peru: We have submitted bill to reduce food prices

The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday announced that the Executive Branch has submitted to Parliament Bill No. 1630 to reduce the price of foods such as chicken, noodles, sugar, and meat products by 19%.

In a post on Twitter, the Head of State said that this measure was taken to economically relieve Peruvian families in the context of the international crisis.

"We have submitted to Congress Bill No. 1630, whose approval will allow a 19% reduction in the price of food items such as chicken, noodles, sugar, eggs, flour, and meat products so as to provide financial relief to Peruvian familiesin the context of the international crisis," he stated.

Precisely, the Executive Branch has submitted Bill 01630/2021-PE that modifies the General Sales Tax (IGV) and Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) Law. The former has been approved by the affirmative vote of the Council of Ministers.

This initiative aims to determine the guidelines to include food items, which are part of the basic food basket, within the scope of Schedule 1 to the General Sales Tax and Selective Consumption Tax Law.
