The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Wednesday took part in the opening ceremony of the 52nd Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will be held in Lima from October 5 to 7.

The event began at 5:51 p.m. at Lima Convention Center located in the Peruvian capital's San Borja district.

The opening session included the remarks of OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro and the Peruvian Head of State.

Precisely in the morning, Mr. Castillo participated in the inauguration of the dialogue between the heads of delegation and representatives of civil society organizations and other social actors —within the framework of the 52nd OAS General Assembly.

At the event, the Head of State emphasized that the health and economic crisis has severely hit countries, particularly harming the most vulnerable ones.

For this reason —he underlined— it is appropriate to propose solutions that are in line with the commitments of the 2030 Agenda and based on a firm democratic conviction, thus guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of women, the working class, indigenous peoples, and Afro-descendants.
