As part of the activities marking the 202nd anniversary of the Peruvian Navy and the 144th anniversary of the Naval Batlle of Angamos, the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte affirmed that more than S/588 million (around US$153.6 million) has been allocated to promote the naval industry.

"Through the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), more than S/588 million (about US$153.6 million) has been authorized to promote the development of the naval industry and promote the reactivation of medium and small-sized enterprises (MSEs)," the top official stated.

"These resources are earmarked for the construction of an ocean patrol vessel, two maritime patrol vessels, and two auxiliary logistics units in the shipyards of the Navy's industrial services," she added.

Thus, the Head of State recognized male and female members of the Navy who actively participate in the fight against drug trafficking and the remnants of terrorism across the country.

She also recognized sailors' efforts to assist the most underprivileged through the Itinerant Social Action Platforms (PIAS) made up of vessels that navigate the Amazon basin and Lake Titicaca to provide basic services such as health, defense and legal guidance, interpretation of native languages, among others.

"Our Navy combats the remnants of terrorism together with the Army, the Air Force and the National Police. Besides, it actively participates in the fight against drug trafficking, logging, mining and illegal fishing," Mrs. Boluarte remarked.

"At the same time, they struggle tenaciously against poverty and inequality, serving the most underprivileged through the PIAS river platform, and those affected by natural disasters through the PIAS lake platforms," she explained.

On the other hand, the dignitary highlighted the actions conducted by the Navy, such as its application to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships.

Her remarks were delivered as she participated in the ceremony marking the 202nd anniversary of the Peruvian Navy —the day on which the 144th anniversary of the Naval Battle of Angamos is also commemorated.
