President of the Republic Keiko Fujimori Higuchi announced today that 6 billion soles (approximately $1.744 billion) will be allocated exclusively for the construction of schools next year.

This sum is part of an additional 18 billion soles ($5.232 billion) added to the 2027 budget, earmarked to address the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.

"A week ago, the Minister of Economy and I announced an 'anti-cyclical' economic package—as we have termed it—in response to the intensity of the approaching El Niño phenomenon and its potential economic blow; however, the Government of Peru will respond with even greater strength," President Fujimori emphasized.

The president made these remarks during the groundbreaking ceremony for the José María Arguedas educational institution in the district of Santa Anita—a school where students and teachers have been attending classes in temporary facilities for over a decade.

At the site, the head of state noted that this school—along with others to be built during her administration—will be modern, featuring libraries, laboratories, and vocational workshops, with the goal of allowing students to learn trades during their final years of schooling.

"Our vision extends beyond the infrastructure—which includes 2,000 new schools and the renovation of 3,000 existing ones—to also encompass satellite connectivity. This will provide high-speed access to information, enabling teachers to continue their professional development and ensuring students have access to relevant resources," the president said during her address.

She further noted that these initiatives include a new disciplinary policy, which has been well-received by teachers, parents, and students alike.

"For us, education will be one of the most important legacies we leave behind, because investing in our children and adolescents means investing not only in the future, but also in the present of our country," emphasized President Keiko Fujimori.
