President Keiko Fujimori highlighted today that the launch of an electrical system in Iberia and surrounding localities in the Madre de Dios region will drive a major transformation and usher in a new phase of development for more than 120,000 families in the Amazon territory.

“This electrical system marks the beginning of a major change. This energy will enable thousands of families to get ahead. Today, we have not just turned on a light; we have turned on a beacon of hope. We are launching a new era of development for Iberia and all the surrounding communities,” she stated during the inauguration of the electrification project.

The President noted that the infrastructure includes 160 kilometers of transmission lines, which integrate the region into the National Interconnected Electrical System (SEIN).

The new infraestructure will benefit more than 120,000 inhabitants in the areas of Nueva Pacarán, Alerta, San Lorenzo, La Merced, La Abeja, Iberia, Arca Pacahuara, and Iñapari, which are situated in the Amazon region.

Furthermore, she pointed out that the supply of clean, stable, and more affordable energy will help preserve food, protect the inventory of local merchants, and boost the productive activities of farmers.

President Fujimori also mentioned that, following an inspection of the electrical transformer station and discussions with regional and local authorities, the government will coordinate efforts to bring technology, training, and tractors to Iberia and other communities in Madre de Dios.

She also stated that the new electricity infrastructure will continue to expand in the coming years, eventually reaching more than 350 small towns.

“This administration is just getting started; from now on, we will bring new projects, and funding will reach Iberia and all the districts of Madre de Dios,” she concluded.

The head of state arrived in Madre de Dios to inaugurate two electrification projects—a 138 kV transmission line and the new Iberia substation—as part of her 22nd official working trip.
