President Ollanta Humala announced the establishment of an Economic and Social Council in order to promote public policies within a constructive nature, which will be composed by entrepreneurs and representatives of civil society.

The head of state added that the council will be led by the Presidency of the Republic with the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

He noted that the Economic and Social Council will be based on the guidelines of the National Agreement which he will respect during his term in office.

Humala was sworn in Thursday as President of the Republic of Peru for a five-year term. The head of state began his address to the nation by pledging to dedicate all his efforts to end exclusion and poverty in the country.

During the ceremony, which was attended by several foreign heads of state, the new Peruvian president guaranteed that Peru will be a place in which everyone will have the right to a dignified life and a protected seniority.

After addressing the Congress, Humala is scheduled to host an Extraordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) at the Government Palace in Lima.
