Peruvian President Alan Garcia Perez has arrived at Lima’s Cathedral to participate in the Te Deum ceremony, today’s first event marking the 188th anniversary of Peru’s independence.
The ceremony, attended by a large number of government officials from the executive, legislative and judicial branches, is officiated by Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani, Archbishop of Lima.
On his arrival at the Cathedral at 09:00am, President Alan Garcia was welcomed with a 21-gun salute and full military honors by detachments of Peru’s police and armed forces. The Head of State is accompanied by his wife Pilar Nores de Garcia.
After this religious ceremony, the Peruvian leader will return to Government Palace where he will wait for a Congress Committee to invite him to deliver his annual address to the nation from the Congress venue.
At 11:10am, President Alan Garcia is scheduled to deliver a detailed report on the country’s current situation as well as reforms and improvements to be considered by Congress later this year.
