"Today, from Callao, we are sending a very clear message to the world: Peru wants to be at the forefront of modernization and the energy transition," Fujimori said.
In this regard, the top official emphasized that the goal is for ports in Peru to become more competitive and for foreign trade to continue growing to generate more opportunities for all Peruvians, while also protecting the environment and thinking about the future.
The Head of state explained that the Shore Power system will provide power to vessels at the terminal, reducing pollution.
Likewise, she reported that only 3% of the world's ports have this type of technology.
"We are proud that Peru has it; it is an example of environmental protection and modernization," Fujimori said, highlighting that this is good news for all families in Callao as well.
The top official emphasized that the launch of this modern system also demonstrates that economic growth, investment, innovation, and environmental protection are not conflicting objectives, but rather that they should and can move forward together.
The President stressed that Peru needs private investment, innovation, and companies with the ability and willingness to look beyond the short term, as well as a State that supports this effort, promotes competitiveness, and facilitates new technologies.
In this regard, Fujimori stressed that when the private sector invests and creates jobs, and the State establishes appropriate conditions for this investment to develop, Peru will always be the main beneficiary.
"Callao's South Pier is becoming the first terminal in Latin America to have a Shore Power system, taking a step forward in innovation and sustainability," she highlighted.
The President added that the country's flagship products leave through this port, making it the gateway through which Peruvian work reaches the world.
"Therefore, modernizing ports also means strengthening our economy, because a modern port does not just move containers; it moves opportunities," she said.
Transportation and Communications Minister Rafael Rey participated in the ceremony, along with DP World representatives.
